Behind the Masks

A restless me wonders at times- what happened to the world. True that passing time brings about changes. Changes that some deplore. Changes that some condemn. Changes that some rue. However, somehow, the mind reins over the heart to explain that the truth is the bitter that is hidden. It is ridiculous that the same word "mask" which cannot cover the whole face, covers the collective lies, collective secrets and collective inhumane acts of the whole 767.35 crore people of the world.

The face, the truth and the world is hidden behind the mask.

But, why is everything hidden behind the mask, someone asks. Because, to express the truth is a crime, punishable not by the law but by the civilians of the seemingly "so" lawful world. As they say, lies are never hidden, they are right but that concludes that the truth- the unknown will probably never unfold. If you ask, why I say so, please answer why are people handcuffed when they come to speak the wrongs of the world leaders and none is prohibited when the false commitments of the rich to the poor are glorified.

Next, to answer what is behind the mask- When the discovery and continuous spread of COVID-19 wreaked havoc in the world, why were the number of deaths not unveiled truly? Why was the death of a brother hidden from those, who sympathize for the dead and not criticize him/her for contracting the disease? The actuality of life is hidden behind the mask only to help the innocent acknowledge the illusion that the wrongdoers pose. It is a practice followed more often than not to hide from the world what you are and boast about what you have temporarily and artificially become. To explain it in a nutshell, it is like, when guests are coming, you makeup yourself to look like a fair lady with golden hair but, when they go, your skin tone is dusky brown. However, the makeup you do can save you from outsiders but your inner self still knows; your conscience still knows you are a dusky brown shade.

Seeing from another angle, we can say that the mask you use once does not last long. They say, "एक झूठ छुपाने के लिए १०० झूठ बोलने पड़ते हैं " and it is no wonder you will succumb to the chaos created by speaking lies. Behind the mask, there is a whole world of imaginary wires which connect the consequence of one's actions to the other false that another speaks.

Coming to present day, everyone is hidden behind a mask. And, everything is hidden behind the mask. The two masks have relation. Behind the former one, what is there- everyone knows. But, what is behind the latter is something no one knows. Some say, "पापों का घड़ा इतना मत भर देना की वो फूट जाये।" According to some theories, we are bearing the fruits of what we have sown or done. Hence, to remove mask from faces, the truth needs to be unmasked first.

  1. एक झूठ छुपाने के लिए १०० झूठ बोलने पड़ते हैं
For my English readers, it means to hide 1 lie, you need to speak a 100 more as a consequence.

  3. Excellent writing Shubh. Good perspective on how ironically the real mask is better than the figurative mask we have all the time, either to hide the truth or put up a deceptive facade.
